If any of you are wondering what to get me this year for Christmas, ponder no more! I’ve come up with a brilliant idea that will relinquish my craving for some holiday spirit.
Here’s the deal: There is NO Christmas here! No festive lights, no trees, no carolers caroling, no drummers drumming… and especially NO Christmas [...]

I ❤ Candy Corn!
Posted in Holidays, tagged Candy, Candy Corn, Halloween on October 31, 2009 | 10 Comments »
My heart is melancholy today, thinking of all the millions and millions of candy corns that will be eaten, BUT NOT BY ME!!! (sniff. sniff.)
Many people favor the candy bars: Three Musketeers, Snickers, Butterfingers…. but I love the candy corn (and pumpkins).
So, when you’re sorting through your candy tonight, please (even if you don’t like [...]

Tonight was the last night of the 7 day holiday celebrated in Israel called Sukkot. Since I was back in the States during the beginning of it, I missed out on the festivities my flat-mates held at our apartment.
During Sukkot (aka: The Feast of the Tabernacles found in Lev. 23:33-44) Israeli’s are called to remember [...]

Starting at 5pm tonight (Thursday) we celebrate yet another holiday, The Feast of Weeks, or Pentecost as its called in the states. It comes exactly 50 days after Passover, which is now! It marks the giving of the Torah to Israel on Mount Sinai.
How does The Feast of Weeks overlap with Pentecost. Well, after the [...]

Last year I was enjoying a fine-dining dinner of KFC, thanks to the generosity of Thrive Africa staff in South Africa. The year before that…in the bush of Botswana (sadly, no KFC or anything else remotely close).
Another year, another birthday, another country.
This year I am 34!
I tend to look at birthdays in [...]

There were no PEEPS or Cadbury Eggs for me this year. No Easter Egg Hunts, or baskets with that artificial green grass stuff. I did have the privledge, though, to celebrate Easter in Jerusalem at the Garden Tomb. Every year they have a special sunrise service at the EMPTY tomb to celebrate Resurrection Sunday.
There [...]
Good Friday In Jerusalem

What would have Jesus’ walk down the Via Dolorosa looked like if cameras and video’s were around 2000 years ago???
or maybe this????
I spent all day in the Old City, mostly on the Via Dolorosa, where thousands came to walk the steps that Jesus walked on crucifixion day. It was absolutely crazy! You could hear just [...]

No more pita and hummus. Pesach (passover) calls for no bread or pita (yeast) for 8 more days. I think its a good thing, though…my hips and thighs are proving to need the break as well :{

2009! Here we are…
I don’t do New Years Resolutions any more since I hardly ever follow through with any of them. I only have one resolution, which is a lifelong one: to walk daily in the purpose God has for my life. That’s it! It’s only one small sentence, but wrapped up in it is [...]

Chanukah, Day 5: The Dreidel
Posted in Holidays, Life on the Outside, tagged Chanukah, Dreidel, Jewish culture, Jewish traditions on December 26, 2008 | 1 Comment »
The Dreidel is a well-known gift given during Chanukah. In Hebrew it is called a sevivon, coming from the root word for ‘to turn’. There are games played and songs sung; we even learned a song in my Ulpan called, “Sevivon, sov, sov, sov” (Dreidel, turn, turn, turn). The dreidle is a four sided spinning top with [...]
Christmas Eve in Bethlehem

Last night I had the most amazing Christmas Eve ever! I spent my Eve in Bethlehem and had such a tremendous time. In Manger Square there were bands playing from all over, tourists everywhere, midnight mass at the Church of the Nativity, and even the Palestinian President himself was there for a tour of the [...]
