Today is my nephew’s 12th birthday! I can still remember the day, like it was yesterday, 12 years ago when I got the phone call that he had been born. I was living in Arizona, still in college at Arizona State University. Now, here we are 12 years later (he’s almost a teenager!), talking on Skype, still living far apart.
We’ve spent more time away then together, and distance has always been difficult for me. It’s not fun always missing birthdays, holidays, and family time; but the times we DO have are lots of fun. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHEAL!!!

I LOVE YOU MICHEAL!!! YOU’RE MY FAVORITE NEPHEW!!!
Yesterday my roommate noticed an envelope in someone else’s mailbox addressed to me. We grabbed the letter and on the front was a stamp saying, “Missent to Thailand.”
Thailand??? Thailand??? Yeah, thats a clear mistake for Israel!!!
Then I noticed the date of the sent stamp from Winterset, IA…April 21, 2009. 2 months ago?? It took 2 months to get my birthday card from my friend K? Are you kidding me??? It only took a couple days from the package from South Africa and this was only a card.
Thanks, K for the birthday card, and sorry its only 2 months in the making. lol
Here is a picture of my birthday bamboo. I have been wanting to get a plant for a while now, and have been seeking out the perfect plant for me. There are so many different cool house plants available here, and since my apartment is small and already completely filled to the brim with stuff and room-mates this leaves me with a tiny window of choices here.
Anyways, one day I was walking with my roomie and we stopped at a small plant/flower shop. I showed her some plants I was thinking about buying, and this bamboo plant was one of them.
Soooooo, on my birthday I woke up with this as my gift from my room-mates. Its a great choice as its small, cute, and most importantly LOW MAINTENANCE.
33 years ago today I came into this world not knowing much of how it all worked. 33 years later, I can say that I still don’t have much of a clue! When I was younger I thought that being in your 30’s was sooooo old. But here’s the thing: now the 30’s seem young. There are days when I still feel like I’m that 16 year old girl in high school (which Thank God…I’m not!) But in all seriousness, it is extremely wierd to me that I am 33. I said it when I turned 30 and had my early mid-life meltdown, and now I’m saying it again at 33….SURREAL!
Mom and Dad: Its been a long 33 years for you, putting up with me….but don’t worry, I’m like good wine… only getting better with age! hehehehe (thought you would love that analogy) Thanks for loving me for the past 33 years, even those moments when I didn’t deserve it!
