Thankful, Week 4: Thanksgiving

That’s right, I’m thankful for Thanksgiving!  Being an American while living in other countries and cultures can quite often lead to loosing some of your own culture and traditions and adopting others.  I’ve actually done this a lot in the various places I’ve lived, but the one thing that does not change or alter one bit is Thanksgiving!

No matter where you are in the world, or who you are with, on Thanksgiving there is probably a 99.9% chance that you are thinking/dreaming/longing for Turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberries, Yams, and that oh-so-coveted PUMPKIN PIE!

It’s the one day of the year that all Americans come together, near and far, and celebrate our Thankfulness via a huge FEAST. Everything about Thanksgiving day makes me happy (and run to put on some sweat-pants), and if you’re like me and from Michigan, then there’s the bonus delight of watching our beloved Lions loose yet again 🙂

Ode to Thanksgiving…. the only holiday that makes me remember I am actually an American (which I tend to overlook 364 days of the year), and reminds me that I have SO MUCH in life to be truly thankful for!

NOW GO STUFF YOURSELF SILLY…. and remember not to wear jeans to the dinner table!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Thankful, Week 3: Travel

Travel.  This might seem like an unusual thing to be thankful for, but let me explain.

If I had to choose 1 thing that I like to do the most…. only 1 thing, it would be beyond a shadow of a doubt traveling.  Going to new places, experiencing new cultures, meeting new people, and just being able to view the amazing world God created is what I love to do most!

I have already been so blessed to be able to go places and see things that I never thought I would ever see!  I have had the luxury of experiencing many new cultures and live all around the world!  The beauty that surrounds us is astounding… and there’s soooooooo much more for me to still experience!

From North and South America to Africa, Asia, and Europe…. its been an amazing ride so far, and for this I’m eternally thankful!

What are you thankful for today?

Thankful, Week 2: Grace

GRACE.  A word and a concept that I too often take for granted.

I have to admit, without GRACE, I would be in trouble….. real trouble!  I’ve received so much in my life from friends, family, co-workers, but most importantly from God!

Abba, my Heavenly Daddy, my Almighty Elohim!  Not only is He full of Love, but He is full of Grace.  I live in an area of the world where the image of God isn’t exactly full of Grace.  Muslims see their Allah as strict, harsh, and not so forgiving. Orthodox Jews use the 63 books of the Talmud to adhere to strict rules and laws of living.

Now, while I agree with having rules by which we must live by, the one thing that is missing from these is: GRACE.

Without GRACE, I have no hope. Without GRACE I have no eternity. Without GRACE I have no personal relationship with my Abba.

And today, everyday, I am thankful for all the GRACE that has been bestowed upon my life….. from earth and from heaven!

What are you thankful for today?

Thankful, Week 1: My Family

I’ve noticed many people are taking this month to blog about what they are thankful for, each day.  I could easily fill up 30 days of being thankful, but realistically, I don’t have time to blog throughout this whole month without missing days, so I decided to do it weekly.

Each week I will choose something I am extremely thankful for, starting with Week 1:

MY FAMILY

There isn’t a day that goes by where I’m not thinking about them and missing them even more!  My family means EVERYTHING to me, even if I only see them once every 1 or 2 years.  They are my best friends, my most loyal supporters, my confidants….. my family!

I am beyond thankful that throughout the years, during the good and bad times, the fights, the tears, the joys, the sorrows, all the family games and holidays…. no matter what happens they will ALWAYS be my family, and I love them!

I am thankful for our skype times, our facebook chats, and the emails of love and support.  This week I am THANKFUL for them: My Family!

What are you thankful for today?

What is prayer to me?

I’ve been dabbling in Max Lucado’s book, Fearless, whenever I have the opportunity; and yesterday, while I was in Celcom for more than 3 hours, I was able to read quite a bit.

Something he wrote regarding prayer grabbed a hold of me and hasn’t let go…

Prayer is the practice of sitting calmly in God’s lap and placing our hands on his steering wheel.  He handles the speed and hard curves and ensures safe arrival.  We offer our requests; we ask God to “take this cup away.”  This cup of disease, betrayal, financial collapse, joblessness, conflict, or senility.  Prayer is this simple.

He goes on to talk about how we overcomplicate the topic of prayer.

We prescribe words for prayer, places for prayer, clothing for prayer, postures for prayer; durations, intonations, and incantations.

And yet, it is the smallest, shortest, and most heart-felt prayers that, lately, I can only produce.

Help.

Please.

Thank You.

You know.

And He does.  He hears me and He knows my heart.  And for this and many other reasons, I am so THANKFUL for my אבא.
